The World Through My Eyes: An Anthology About End of Life, by Joan McCarthy

Book Review by Sara Passmore

Joan died on 12th August 2024 at the Pegasos Swiss Association, a Voluntary Assisted Dying organisation based in Basel, Switzerland. Before she died she was a regular attendee of a local Death Cafe (a meetup group to discuss death and eat cake). It was at the suggestion of the group that she pulled together this collection of stories, poems, letters and vignettes on the topic of death, loss, love, and life.

The collection is gripping. Each contribution to the anthology triggers a million thoughts and reflections. These deeply personal stories are intimate and honest, not shying away from the reality of this being the one life we have.

Thank you to Mary Ellen Warren, who contributed this to our library.
