Colin Woodhouse is originally from Liverpool in the UK, but the family moved away from there when he was about 7 so he don’t have a strong Scouse accent. Colin’s first career was as a geologist in the North Sea oil industry. It was something he grew to hate doing and, in 1995, he left that job and started his nurse training in Leeds, UK and became a registered nurse in 2000. For most of the time since then he has worked in neurosciences. Colin migrated with his wife and son from the UK to Aotearoa/New Zealand in 2007, and arrived in Christchurch in time for significant earthquakes, a mass murder, and a pandemic. Why someone with a degree in geology would choose to move to a seismically active country might seem foolish, but he is very happy living here. In 2017 Colin started doing post-graduate study in the palliative care field. Through this he developed an interest in pastoral and spiritual support for patients, which resulted in him gaining a master’s degree. What he wanted to find out was if chaplains who are all Christian really can offer appropriate support to people of all religions or none?
