Currently abortion is a crime under the Crimes Act. We strongly oppose abortion being a crime. We believe it should be removed from the Crime Act. Currently in order to obtain an abortion after 20 weeks a woman must get statements from two medical professionals that they are severely subnormal. Women do not treat abortion lightly. To demean them and force them to seek such declarations is humiliating and unnecessary. It makes a difficult decision even worse. At the same time we believe education about sex and methods of contraception should be broadly available and part of the education system; we should naturally avoid unwanted pregnancy. But forcing women to carry to the end of pregnancy is a violation of basic human self determination.
